The Family Separation Clinic specialises in cases of family separation where children are, or are at risk of, rejecting a relationship with one of their parents and the phenomenon often referred to as parental alienation. Whilst the Clinic works within a psychotherapeutic framework, it often employs a multi disciplinary approach to the resolution of cases, working with a range of independent professionals with backgrounds in clinical psychology, child and adolescent psychiatry, social work, parent co-ordination and alternative dispute resolution.
The Clinic works both inside and outside the family courts and accepts referrals for assessment and treatment where alienation is believed to be present. Cases are assessed using a differentiation framework followed by the delivery of combined treatment routes to free children from their alienation reaction.
The Family Separation Clinic is based in London, UK, but delivers services to clients around the world.
'After more than three years of struggle I thought that I would never have a relationship with my daughter. I had used barristers, a contact centre, Cafcass workers, independent social workers and a psychologist to no avail; after 23 court hearings I thought that the were no further options available to me. I was informed of the Family Separation Clinic through a father in a similar position. After the Clinic’s careful and considered assessment of the situation and report to the court I now have shared care of my daughter. Without Karen Woodall's input and the input of the Family Separation Clinic I know that this would not have been possible.'
